Office of the Inspector General and County Internal Auditor

In Sarasota County, the Clerk of the Circuit Court and County Comptroller also serves as the Inspector General (OIG) and County Internal Auditor, responsible for preserving the public’s confidence by promoting accountability, integrity, and transparency in county government. We accomplish this by utilizing audit and investigative strategies that effectively manage risk to county taxpayers and ensure public accountability for the use of tax dollars. We also collaborate with law enforcement to implement initiatives that safeguard the county’s resources and to help protect our most vulnerable residents under the guardianship programs.

These duties are carried out to assist the board of County Commissioners and the County Administrator in meeting their responsibility for the public assets and resources placed in their trust. Duties and Services of the Inspector General
  • Provides an independent, objective, and unbiased evaluation of operational, compliance, and financial risks
  • Examines management practices and strategic business governance activities to safeguard assets and resources
  • Investigates citizen and employee concerns and allegations of fraud, waste, and abuse directed against Sarasota County government
  • Responds to complaints received through various means, including the Fraud Hotline
  • Implements internal audits of county programs and operations
  • Conducts investigations concerning guardianship matters and carries out court-ordered guardianship audits to protect a ward’s assets (F.S. Chapter 744)
  • Trains members of the Investigative Services Team
  • Provides consulting services as authorized by the Clerk and Comptroller
