Operation Green Light FAQs

• When and where are Operation Green Light events?

  The Sarasota County Clerk and Comptroller is offering three special, in-person events for customers who wish to benefit from Operation Green Light savings.

  Customers should be prepared to follow CDC guidelines regarding social distancing when participating in Operation Green Light. To reduce the spread of COVID-19, participants in Operation Green Light are asked to limit their party size to two. 

• Can I pay over the phone or online?

  During Operation Green Light, customers must appear in person.

• Who can participate in or benefit from attending Operation Green Light?

  Customers with an overdue Sarasota County traffic ticket or court case has been turned over to a collection agency benefit by having collection agency fee waived when they either:

  • Pay in full; or 
  • Enter into a payment plan agreement, and make an initial down payment.

  Customers with multiple outstanding tickets or court fines will be able to enter in to a consolidated payment plan during Operation Green Light.

  NOTE: We will accept on-time payments for all Sarasota County traffic tickets and court fines for customers participating in Operation Green Light.

  For all other customers, the Clerk and Comptroller offers a variety of payment options for traffic citations and the ability to pay some fines and fees online.

• What forms of payment are accepted?

  During Operation Green Light, the following forms of payment will be accepted.

  • Cash
  • Check or money order, made payable to Sarasota County Clerk and Comptroller
  • Credit card, subject to a 3.5% processing fee

• What if I can't pay off all of my overdue tickets, court fines, and fees at once?

  If you have a ticket and need more time to pay, apply for a payment plan at Operation Green Light. You can also apply for a payment plan for criminal and misdemeanor cases with outstanding court fines, costs, and fees. Your payment plan application must be made in person and will require an initial down payment of $25 per case.

• How do I restore my driving privilege, and is what is the cost?

  For most traffic cases, if you pay your debt in full or establish a monthly payment plan during Operation Green Light, you will be able to reinstate your driver license while at the Clerk and Comptroller's office. An additional $60.00 reinstatement fee is required. Bring your photo ID with you.

  For criminal cases, if you pay your debt in full or establish a monthly payment plan, the Clerk and Comptroller will provide you with documentation confirming your eligibility to reinstate your driver license. This document must be taken to the Tax Collector's office to proceed with the license reinstatement process. Contact the Tax Collector to determine hours, locations, and fees for driver license services.

  If you have outstanding tickets or court fines due in more than one Florida county, you will need to satisfy all outstanding obligations in each county, before your license can be reinstated. Check the status of your Florida Driver's License online and see what is affecting your license. Other Florida Clerk's are also hosting Operation Green Light events.

• What if my ticket or case is in another county?

  Your Sarasota Clerk and Comptroller can help with tickets and fines received in Sarasota County. For all others, you must pay the county Clerk's office where the ticket was issued or the court fine ordered. 

  Clerk's offices throughout Florida will be hosting Operation Green Light events, many with extended and weekend hours, and special virtual events!
